April 10, 2007 by Pastor Dan.
People always talk about the “gets”:
- Get to heaven
- Get a good job
- “Get a life!!”
- get saved
- get ahead
- get going
- get lost!
Advertisers ask us if we’ve “got milk.” If you don’t you have to get it, so go to the store and get some today.
It’s a pity that more people “don’t get it” in life – because life is not about what you get out of it!
But — All is a gift:
- Life is a gift.
- What we have in life are not the rewards of our hard work, but a gift in trust.
- Our relationships are gifts – how that would transform what we expect and what we “get out of” them!!
- Our talents and abilities, even our genes, are gifts.
- if you think in spiritual terms, realize that salvation is a gift.
- Christ is a gift, grace is a gift, heaven is a gift, love is a gift.
Once we understand the giftedness of life, life is no longer what you “get out of it.” Life is what you put into it, based on your gifts.
I could go on about this at some length, but why? The greatest truths in life are simple, and I think this is quite possibly one of the simplest and greatest of spiritual truths. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out, nor a guru to teach it. Open your mind to take hold of this: life and everything worth living is a gift.
